Spring
I love spring. It rocks. Snow is gone, grass grows.
One of my favorite choral works I've ever sung is called "Spring." It's set to a work of Lizst, and the words come from a Norwegian poem called "The Last Spring." It's a poem by an older person who wonders if this spring is the last spring he/she will experience. It's mournful and joyful in one turn. The Lizst tune is haunting, beautiful and celebratory. The poet ends on the thought that the beauty of spring passes, but summer--with its sumptuous beauty is coming.
Here's the lyrics:
Yet once again I could see winter leave,
and springtime advancing,
Buds soon appeared on hedge and tree,
and flow'rs were dancing.
Life in its beauty once again I see,
but must from it sever;
Sad then of heart I wonder if this be
the last spring forever.
Green was the grass, and the flow'rs now shown forth, in brilliant array
Once more I hear the joyous song of spring and summer.
I haven't figured out how to add an mp3 here. I will check into it...then you could have a listen.
Enjoy spring!!!

I googled the first line of this song and ended up here. I too loved this song when we sang in HS choir 40 years ago. I would like to find it somewhere to download but with such a title the search may take some time. Thank you for the rest of the lyrics. It brought back many beautiful memories.
Happy Spring!
Steve
